Goodbye Grandpa

My grandfather passed away last week. My aunt made a dedicated site to him: http://www.paulcorrette.com/

CORRETTE, Paul L. Paul L. Corrette, 94, beloved husband of the late Betsey H. Corrette, a 54-year resident of Bloomfield, passed away peacefully Friday, (August 15, 2008) in Derwood, MD, surrounded by his family. Paul was born April 25, 1914 in Lebanon, NH, son of Alphonse and Marie (Jette) Corrette. After graduating from Keene Normal School (Keene State College) in 1936, Paul taught industrial arts in Barre, VT, relocated to Hartford in 1942 and moved to Bloomfield in 1954. His career as a manufacturing engineer with Johnson Gage, Hartford Special and Emhart Manufacturing Company lasted 36 years. Paul, an impressive musician, played the clarinet and saxophone in several local bands and orchestras. Always busy, Paul's retirement years were spent collecting and restoring antique radios, operating his ham radio (he belonged to the American Radio Relay League, ARRL), traveling with his wife, Betsey, gardening, cheering for his beloved Red Sox and the UConn Women's basketball team, and joining friends for coffee at the Town and Country Restaurant. Paul is survived by his four children; Jane Koda (Paul) of Derwood, MD; Raymond Corrette (Linda) of Old Saybrook, Kathryn McGiffen of Riverside, CA; and Paula Corrette-Fay (Gary) of Tucson, AZ, as well as, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Besides his wife of 53 years, Paul was predeceased by his infant daughter Louise Liane, a great granddaughter, and eight brothers and sisters. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday, August 20, 10 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 26 Wintonbury Ave., Bloomfield. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Bloomfield. His family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 19, from 6-8 p.m. at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Radio Relay League, either at their website, www.arrl.org or by mailing to: 225 Main Street, Newington CT 06111-1494, or a charity of your choice. Our deepest sympathy are with you, Ray and Linda. Although we have never met your dad, we feel we knew him through you. Wish we could have heard him play the sax and clarinet.

We are sure your dad will be missed, but never forgotten.

Dear Ray, Jane, Paula and Kathy and Linda and Nicholas, and families -
I was so sorry to hear of your loss. It's hard to think the wonderful gentleman we all knew, and who shared a backyard fence with us from 1955 to 1970 - that he is gone. He lived a wonderful life - with a loving family.

Our sympathies to you, from

A wonderful man and Uncle who inspired the music in my life! My early memories of him are of a kind and gentle man who always had time to talk with the kids in the family... and I remembering him playing the saxophone and clarinet. Thanks Uncle Paul!

50th Wedding book, part 1

When my grandparents were first married, they didn't have a big party. They waited for their golden anniversary for a big party. For the big day, an album was made. I have started the scanning of that album, and here are the first images:

Here we go!

Hello

I created this blog to share family photos from my paternal grandparents house.  Back in April, 2008, my grandpa, Paul Corrette, was moved into an assisted living facility, and his three daughters and myself got together to close up the house and sell it.  When it came time to split the family archive, we each got a portion.  My own father, Ray Corrette was out to sea at the time, so I was there in his stead.  You can catch up on his and my mom's life in a blog of their own, maintained here: http://users.rcn.com/raylinsea/.  Anyhow, I have started the scanning process, and will be posting the photos for all to see over the next few months.
